Part 1:Īnything that appears on this list needs immediate attention. Is there any way to de-activate the installer? I tried deleting every file from library/updates, but the update files apparently re-install themselves, because they return without me having restored or actively re-downloading them.Ĭould be true re: 3rd party thing, though I've seen many posts about similar or identical problems with this update on various forums, so I have to think it's at least partly possible that there's an issue with the update.Īnyway thank you for the EtreSoft suggestion, report follows (posted in multiple parts for character limit reasons). I would however like to be able to shut down properly again, which is currently impossible. In other threads there are numerous suggestions about re-installing the OS, which I'm not about to do. Luckily the laptop always starts up fine, though I always get the dialogue box message that I shut down because there was a problem, and would I like to re-open whatever software was running? I always choose not to, and startup sequence continues normally. The only way to get past this is to do a hard shutdown. I downloaded from the app store and when I restart to complete the installation, the screen goes black and the cursor pops into the upper left land corner off the screen, where it stays indefinitely (after one of these hangs I left the laptop on all night just see if anything would change, and nothing happened). I'm having one of the apparently common problems with Security Update 10.13.6.
